Tour Attractions
Laxman Jhula: This bridge was built during the time of the British rule. The original bridge is closed and a new one is being constructed at present. One can take a boat across the river to get to the other side. There are shops and restaurants on either side of the bridge. It looks beautiful in the evenings too with its lights on. It is said that Lord Lakshmana crossed the Ganges on jute ropes where the bridge is now located. Lakshman Jhula was completed in 1929.
Triveni Ghat: Recommended duration is 2 to 3 hours. The fun begins with taking the trip to the Ghat, finding seats, meeting other groups and people sharing the same enthusiasm for the evening aarti (prayer ritual with lighted lamps)! There is a proper place to store footwear, with enough time to click some photographs. One should arrive by 5.15 pm when the first devotees are gathering on the steps for the aarti. Here, the first two rows of steps are reserved for devotees who have made special donations for family prayers. The management is well organized and welcoming, and the live Bhajan (devotional hymns) singing is a soulful and elevating spiritual experience.
Ram Jhula: About 2 kms away from the Laxman Jhula, Ram Jhula is a suspension bridge connecting Shivananda Nagar on the west, to Swargashram on the east, spanning the holy Ganges river. It has bustling markets and eateries nearby. One can walk across the bridge enjoying spectacular views of the river. It was built in 1986 and is a cultural symbol for its spiritual surroundings.
