Q.1   What should I know before planning a trip?
A.1   Check the weather conditions.

Q.2   Are prior registrations necessary for any of the Yatras (Pilgrimages)?

A.2   Yes, prior registrations are necessary for the following yatras:

 Notes: For the Amarnath Yatra: No pilgrim less than 13 years of age or more than 70 years of age, and no lady with more than six week’s pregnancy shall be registered for the Yatra. Please refer to the above mentioned website for updates.

Q.3   What are the necessary items to be carried on yatras?
A.3   Warm clothing including jacket, sweater, woolen socks, comfortable walking
          shoes, thermal underwear, medicines, raincoat and torch.

Q.4   Are non-Hindus allowed inside all religious places?
A.4   No, non-Hindus may not be allowed inside some religious places. Authorities are expected to follow the customs and practices of temples strictly. There may be sign boards mentioning that “ non-Hindus are not permitted inside the temple beyond the flagpole.”

Q.5   Is there a dress code for religious sites in India?
A.5   Yes, there is. People are expected to dress modestly. Shorts, mini skirts, ripped jeans and Capri pants are not permitted within the premises.

Q.6      Are religious sites closed on certain days of the week?
A.6   Religious sites are open on all days of the week. However, tourists may not be permitted during service timings. Sites are also closed at certain periods of the year due to weather conditions.

Q.7   Is shopping possible close to religious sites in India?
A.7  Yes, shopping is possible. Retail brands across segments, including fashion and apparel, food and beverage, homeware , department stores and consumer electronics brands, tailor their offerings to the pilgrim’s needs.   

Q.8   Is photography permitted within the premises of religious sites?
A.8   No, photography is prohibited.

Q.9   Are the sites wheel-chair accessible?
A.9   Yes, many of the sites are accessible by wheel-chair.

Q.10   Are special permits required for protected areas within India?
A.10   Yes, a special permit from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region ( MDONER ) should be taken.
